Data collection for Food Waste Index by UNEP – An insight to Methodology and Challenges
Abstract
Food waste not only is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, but also burdens waste management, deteriorating one of the three planetary crises, climate change. To mitigate the food waste problem, UNEP’s first Food Waste Index report was proposed to provide an insight into the scale of the problem. Our study focuses on analyzing the data in Food Waste Index report, and the study problem is that to what extent the amendment of the food waste data will benefit resilient and sustainable food systems. With carefully check of the completeness of the data and investigation of its potential ,we can better the methodology to measure food waste globally, at the household, food service and retail level, to offer innovative insights with amendatory data, and to evolve a more resilient and sustainable food system.
