WHAT EXACTLY IS FOOD WASTE/LOSS?
Understanding what is food loss and waste is vital for stakeholders across the food system from producers, distributors, retailers and consumers to measure, track and prevent edible food loss and waste while ensuring that we can safely and efficiently recycled inedible food loss and waste back into #foodsystems to produce food locally.
Increase in food loss and waste lead to an increase in production of methane greenhouse gas emission which is harmful to our health. By wasting food, we are destroying our ecosystem as a result of depleting natural resources – land, water, energy, labour, capital invested in food production while preventing other people from having access to good food.
By eliminating food loss and waste, more people will have access to good food and there will be less pressure on scarce resources to produce more food.
