 PORTION CONTROL

A portion is the amount of food that you choose to eat at one time. Portion control means eating only what your body requires. Excess body weight is worth 140 billion tonnes of food waste (based on dietary excesses), which is significantly more than the 1.3 billion tonnes lost/wasted annually from farm to fork. As a result, being attentive to how much you eat is a strategy to avoid food waste caused by excessive consumption of food while being healthy.

Here are some basic strategies for portion control to reduce food waste

  1. Begin your meals with tiny servings. If you are still hungry, you can always eat more.
  2. Eat healthy snacks between meals if you are hungry to avoid overeating.
  3. Use measurements to avoid overcooking; people tend to eat more when a broader variety of dishes is available.
  4. Distribute extra food.
  5. Download the World Food Tracker https://intellidigest.com/services/food-waste-tracker/ to help you plan to save your food, save our health, our wealth and earth.
