    She holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering with research interest in the use of Artificial Intelligence to optimise Anaerobic Processes.

    Dr Kanu loves nature and she is passionate about engineering solutions to address environmental and societal challenges. She is leading IntelliDigest on a mission to empower global food sustainability, eliminate food waste and zero hunger.

    Dr Kanu is an Enterprise Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering and Royal Society of Edinburgh. She is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Associate Fellow of UK Higher Education.

    Dr Kanu is a Champion of the STFC Food Network.

    Associate Professor of Computer Science at York St John University

    Dr. Yang Lu is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at York St John University, where she specialises in the intersection of technology and sustainability. With expertise in machine learning, cyber security, and human-computer interaction, she has played a pivotal role in over 15 collaborative projects funded by EPSRC, ESRC, STFC, the UK Space Agency and Turing Institute. Collaborating with more than 20 reputed universities, her research addresses key societal challenges including sustainability, privacy in the digital realm, public health, and wellbeing. Dedicated to the ethical use of data, she combines her expertise in user experience and behavioural science to develop privacy-focused, effective strategies aimed at minimising food loss and waste within sustainable food systems. Her work is instrumental in shaping a more sustainable future for food systems globally.

    She graduated in Food Science and Technology at the University of Barcelona. Master’s program in Food Safety. From 2022, she has been working on the Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda of the Catalan Government in food losses and food waste prevention. She is promoting the change towards a more sustainable, safe, fair, cohesive, resilient, healthy and competitive system.

    Based in the Paris Cities Unit, Lily Laugharn works on promoting sustainable food systems at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). At UNEP, she supports the facilitation of capacity-building regional workshops on food loss and waste, the development of the Food Waste Index Report, and research on strategies and approaches to meet the SDG 12.3 goal of halving food waste and reducing food losses by 2030.

    Lily joined UNEP after completing her bachelor’s degree at Stanford University where she studied Earth Systems, an interdisciplinary major considering the relationship of human and environmental systems through coursework that ranged from economics to environmental justice. Her prior work experiences at the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of International Affairs and non-profit Kounkuey Design Initiative were focused on advancing equity and sustainability through civic and design interventions at the city-level.
